Catching Up
GraceAnne had last week off from school so we were able to get to St Johns and work with Laura Barry twice. Laura is GREAT, Grace got up a ton of shots in addition to working on her offensive moves.
Had a great time at the Hofstra v Princeton game last Thursday!
Marc Von Essen from Game7 comped us 25 tickets in addition to the 7 we already had so 32 of GraceAnne's teammates, friends and their families got to attend. There was a Game7 clinic between games and then the Hofstra Men beat Iona in the second game. Very nice to see the Princeton team and coaching staff! So busy didn't get a chance to say "hi!" other than waving from the stands. Spoke to Megan Griffith via email afterwards. Nicole Capurso scored 24 for Hofstra in the loss and played an amazing game! She is soooooo nice, brought cupcakes to Grace and her buddies in the stands during the men's game. Marie Malone also had one of her best games EVER!
Earlier in the day Coach Corrine Turner set up a very cool thing. She got the Glen Cove JV team into the Christ The King Holiday Tournament. Fantastic for Corrine to return to her alma mater and be coaching her hometown team!
They played St Francis Prep and played extremely well despite leading the whole game only to fall behind late in the fourth quarter. It was a great experience for all of them just to be able to play in that gym and it was really nice to see the girls step up. Also fun to see CK coach and AD Bob Mackey in the gym checking out our girls. Hopefully he saw some things he liked. GraceAnne played very well and stayed aggressive on the offensive end throughout the game taking it to the basket and drawing fouls. She also blocked a number of shots including a few chase down "dream crushers" and one especially dramatic and well timed one from behind which buckled a girl's legs and sent her to the floor.
Game7 tryouts were yesterday. Grace couldn't go because she had JV practice and has a game today. I went along with Coach Hudson and got to check out the girls. Some nice talent this time. Two girls that St Anthony's coach Ken Parham sent over were the standouts. We have played against both of them numerous times and they always stood out as very good players on bad teams. GraceAnne also knows one of them from Hofstra camp. Jourdin Thomas also played extremely well and made the team. First practice is this Sunday and there is another new girl attending, 5'11", who will make a nice addition. This is going to be an extremely competitive team.
Glen Cove JV plays Lynnbrook today, Storm CYO plays St Agnes on Thurs., GC JV plays West Hempstead Fri..
