I've been getting a lot of questions about Grac'e trip to Russia this spring so I dug up a couple of old articles that were published in local newspapers at the time. So, it's Grace's last season playing AAU basketball. This year she is playing for Long Island Renegades White out of Half Hollow Hills. Her coach is Adam Cirnigliaro, the varsity coach at Half Hollow Hills East. It's always tough to join a new team but the parents and kids are all fantastic! Very friendly and welcoming. Grace has been pushed to the 5 once again, sometimes 4. She gets to play in some great tournaments though. Grace had to miss Boo this year because she traveled to Moscow Russia as a basketball ambassador. Just got back from Gym Rats in Saratoga where the team lost in the Championship game. Black Diamond next weekend. USJN in DC, Nike Nationals in Chicago. Team only runs 2 offensive sets. Defensive rotations are... unorthodox? Been interesting to see Grace adapt to a different way of doing things. She's been playing hard, taking a lot of charges by stepping into the lane on help, battling MUCH bigger girls in the post, pretty thankless stuff. I feel l...

Glen Cove Basketball Athlete Heads to Russia Glen Cove High School junior GraceAnne Woods has been selected for a prestigious SportsUnited: Basketball Ambassadors of Today and Tomorrow full scholarship overseas exchange trip, and will travel to Russia from April 22-May 1.      According to SportsUnited, Woods and 12 other finalists will engage with peers overseas through the common bond of basketball, expanding their understanding of each other’s culture and country while advancing their skills in becoming open-minded and successful citizens of the world.      Glen Cove High School Principal Antonio Santana and the entire administration congratulate Woods on this outstanding athletic achievement.  

In a 3-2 zone you must pressure the ball with on-ball perimeter defense. This means closing out on the pass, going over screens, trapping the corners and ball denial, post players should be denying the post entry pass (fronting or 3/4 in the post). Defensive rotation is critical as it is in all zone defenses. This can be a fun defense to play that confuses offenses and leads to steals and breaks. It does put pressure on your post players and can expose the corners. Basic Rotations and Positions of the 3-2 (1-2-2) zone Starting Positions    Ball on wing: Defender 3 comes out to guard the ball. Defender 1 drops down to the high post area.    Ball in corner: Defender 5 goes out to guard the ball. Defender 4 slides over to defend the low post. Defender 2 drops down to either defend the opposite low block or the wing if a skip pass is thrown. Defender 1 defends the high post area.
