Cluess Camp

Seemed like a really nice week for the girls. Stone, Woody and Caroline who played Lightning AAU last year attended the Tim Cluess President's week camp at Island Garden. Tim Cluess coaches the CW Post men's team and they've been really good in Div II the last few years. The girls played a lot of basketball, made a bunch of new friends and seemed to have a very nice week. Stone hit three three pointers in a row to win $50.00! Woody won something where she got a bunch of sour candy as the prize... which she shoved in her mouth all at once.

Out of The Lion's Den and down to Princeton

GraceAnne had only one game this weekend against a very good sixth grade all star Christ the King team. They lost by a lot, couldn't beat the 3-2 zone but played hard against much bigger faster girls. Hopefully they learned something because they will be playing the same team again on 3/9... they have not had a practice in the last couple weeks and it showed, RUST. After the game we went down to Princeton for a workout with Ms Awesome Carrie Moore. This time we took along Jenna Brown who is a Lightning teammate and just a really good kid. She is only a fourth grader, a solid 1, tenacious defender and already understands many of the finer points of the game. No surprise given her basketball pedigree, daughter of Matt Brown-Son of Herb Brown who is the brother of Larry Brown... yes that Bobcats coach/asst coach future hall of fame Herb and hall of fame Larry Brown. Anyway, the girls all get along well and had a blast. The girls were tired and their energy level might not ha...

Busy Weekend

The Storm lost their Championship game on Saturday to St. Pat's of Smithtown. Bummer. GraceAnne played well with 16 rebounds and 6 blocked shots she also had 3 pts and played solid defense. The team seemed to take the loss with grace, humility and as a philosophical, learning experience. Well, that and they complained about the officiating which was pretty bad. She played two games on Friday night at St Pat's (Glen Cove) intramural CYO, probably wasn't a great idea. The two Super League games later on Saturday were canceled due to snow that never came. On Sunday GraceAnne, Grace Stone, myself and Rik Stone drove down to Princeton for a workout with Carrie Moore. It was a great thing to do after the tough loss and I think it made the girls feel better, like it's not over, basketball goes on. The workout was really intense with Carrie zipping passes to both of them in stride and playing defense that forced them to make quick decisions and read what their defender wa...

Goings on

Last weekend Grace's Lightning team lost a heartbreaker on Saturday night to a very good Lightning Prisco team. It was a back and forth game that was won by a single point in double overtime. On Sunday her Storm team made up for it by winning a thriller by a single point in overtime. That second round CYO playoff game sends the Storm on to the Championship Game this coming Saturday. Later on Sunday her Lightning team faced their first 6th grade opponent in Super League play at SUNY Old Westbury and beat them handily. This coming weekend will be an even bigger test with The Storm playing for the Championship in Commack Saturday at 2:00, then a trip to Island Garden in West Hempstead for a pair of games against very successful sixth grade teams. Probably won't get home 'til 10pm or so. On Sunday we are going down to Princeton for a Carrie workout in the morning and heading back in time for the Game7 workout in Rockville Center at 4:30.... then watch the Superbowl. I...
