Goings on

Grace played extremely well in her summer league game last night. Grabbed rebounds, scored, shot when open, at least one very nice assist that I saw, defended well and tore up and down the floor. Only two fouls. Couple nice chase-down blocks on other people's girls. Wish she put the ball on the floor more but when she did she got HACKED... no call. Team lost by 4, she wasn't on the floor most of the second half including crunch time. Not sure what I missed. Must have been watching some other game. LOVES Game7 Freeport Camp! Almost all boys and she is playing with the 7th to 10th graders. Says the older boys are much more fun to play with. They know how to play, don't grab jerseys, hit and foul and, after she blocked a few of their shots, they started passing her the ball. Jourdin and Amara are also doing it. Sounds like fun! Basketball under the lights tonight, hopefully I'll be able to catch some of it this week. I really want to see the girls coach! More coachi...

Basketball Under The Lights

GraceAnne is participating once again this summer in Glen Cove Recreation's Basketball Under The Lights program at Stanco Park. Best part? She and Amara are coaching the little kids! They show up early coach the younger ones and then play in what really amount to pick-up games with the local boys. Wood, Amara, Tris and two other girls, otherwise all boys. Sounded like she had a lot of fun last night. In other news, sounds like Grace will be going to a Game7 camp at the Freeport Rec next week. Game7 has a great bunch of trainers and it should be a good camp. Her buddy Jourdin is also going so it will be a fun week of basketball and staying with her grandma. Rumors that someone I know might be coaching JV girls basketball for Glen Cove next season. Very, very excited about the candidate because she is young, knows the game, has been through the "system" (top AAU team, recruited to a top NYC CHSAA high school, div I basketball, pro ball overseas) and... we know her! It w...

Summer League

Game7 7th grade.... 7th grade already, really? Game7 7th grade girls are participating in the Northsport summer league in Northport. The first game is this evening and I know GraceAnne is looking forward to it! She created a workout routine with ballhandling and shooting that she's been doing every day the past two weeks in the driveway. Hopefully all of her hard work pays off this evening! The other thing I'd love to see from her tonight is a smile. She's been too stressed out and serious about the game lately. Has fun in practice but games get her crazy. Trying to get her back to having fun. Maximum effort but having a good time... after all, it's a game and at her age it better be fun or I'm not exactly sure what the point is.

Princeton Tiger Overnight Camp 2011

Wonderful experience for the girls and a GREAT camp! All four girls had fun and learned a lot from the Princeton coaching staff. Thanks Courtney, Melanie, Milena, Megan, Megan, Kristen and ALL the other coaches, counselors and trainer. Really a fantastic opportunity for girls this age to be on Princeton campus and to work with such an accomplished and professional coaching staff.
