Carnesecca

GraceAnne got to work with Laura in the big gym at St John's. Carnesecca arena and St John's is kind of a legendary place for me. I still remember Alumni Hall before it was renamed, watching the great Chris Mullin, Mark Jackson, Bill Wennington, Walter Berry final four team, the Georgetown rivalry, Jayson Williams, Willie Glass, Billy Singleton, watching Boo Harvey hit three game winning threes in 88-89, Malik Sealy, Lavor Postell, Erick Barkley, Hamilton and Lopez, Artest, Lou Carnesecca and all his great teams. Afterwards in the car I told Grace how cool I thought it was that she got to work on that legendary floor. She says, "I'm used to it, we worked out there every day last summer during camp with Megan Duffy.". Ok.... well, it was pretty cool for me anyway...

St John's v Rutgers

Image
Went to St Johns v Rutgers at Carnesecca Arena last night with Remi, Samara, Amara, Aaron and GraceAnne. Missed the tip by just a minute or two as the girls were coming straight from JV practice. Thanks to Megan Duffy St Johns Assistant Coach for the tickets! Very, very exciting back and forth game that went right down to the wire! It was really cool seeing Khadijah Rushdan run the point for Rutgers, 16 points. She is just an amazing competitor and very, very impressive, tough, hard-nosed player. You could see her determination to will the win on every possession down the stretch. Had a couple of amazing drives to the hoop during an incredible late rally making moves through the entire St Johns defense hitting tough, tough layups and drawing fouls. April Sykes was fun to watch inside as well. Kept wondering how Red Storm guards were able to get to the rim. Rutgers is an extremely physical team. Nadirah McKenith had another amazing game and was definitely the key to...

The Glen Cove Junior Varsity is 5-1 in league play and 8-3 overall. Two big wins last week. They beat Great Neck North 61-27 at home and then Valley Stream South away 55-33.   The girls are playing well and having a lot of fun! Big game this Friday against league leader Floral Park. http://glencovegirlsbasketball.stackvarsity.com St Johns v Rutgers at Carnesecca tonight.

Glen Cove JV Basketball won both of their games last week to bring their record to 6-3. Solid. The fun thing about this team is that they are really getting better as the season goes along. A LOT better. Daily practice, girls working hard and setting an example... every player is buying in. Winning is contagious... Glen Cove JV supposedly had not won a game in 3 years... WHAT? I did not know this until GraceAnne told me. Hard to believe, even harder to believe that 4 seventh graders and a coach who knows her stuff can have this kind of an impact. Tris, Brady, Amara and Woody... JV Supastaaars! St Hyacinth Storm CYO lost in double overtime to St Agnes Thurs nite. Last time these two teams met Storm won in double OT.... this time the Storm did not play well, never seemed to get going on either end and the tables were turned. The loss dug a big hole, putting the Storm's record at 5-6 going into their final game of the CYO season and needing at least a .500 record to reach th...

Catching Up

GraceAnne had last week off from school so we were able to get to St Johns and work with Laura Barry twice. Laura is GREAT , Grace got up a ton of shots in addition to working on her offensive moves. Had a great time at the Hofstra v Princeton game last Thursday! Amara, Tris, Stone, Julie, Aniya, Samantha, Wood and Blake at Hofstra v Princeton Marc Von Essen from Game7 comped us 25 tickets in addition to the 7 we already had so 32 of GraceAnne's teammates, friends and their families got to attend. There was a Game7 clinic between games and then the Hofstra Men beat Iona in the second game.  Very nice to see the Princeton team and coaching staff! So busy didn't get a chance to say "hi!" other than waving from the stands. Spoke to Megan Griffith via email afterwards. Nicole Capurso scored 24 for Hofstra in the loss and played an amazing game! She is soooooo nice, brought cupcakes to Grace and her buddies in the stands during the men's game. Marie Malone als...
