2008 STORM! They been growing...
CYO St Hyacinth Storm basketball begins practice this coming week. GraceAnne has had a lot of fun playing CYO ball the last few years and the team has done very well. Sounds like we will be a bit short handed this year but that should give everyone lots of playing time. Playing up in the 8th grade dvision so that should be challenging!

So... GraceAnne's Game7 summer league team finished up their season by losing in the first round of the playoffs to a Unique All-Stars team they beat twice during the regular season. All-Stars went on to win the Championship. Seemed like the other teams continued to improve during the season and peaked during the playoffs. Grace's team had no practices throughout the summer which is definitely a trade-off. I think the last practice was prior to the final AAU tournament in June. The girls did extremely well considering they basically improvised. At times they really did play some absolutely spectacular ball! It's always nice to see the team have the structure and direction that practice brings but I'm also glad Grace had an opportunity to enjoy her summer doing lots of things outside of basketball and still play some meaningful games without feeling much pressure. All in all she had a wonderful summer and achieved a great balance of working on her game with the camps and training she did while still having the time to be a carefree kid doing all the summer things kids do.

Lady Vols Head Coach Pat Summit recently announced that she has been diagnosed with early onset dementia at age 59. That really blows me away... Someone who is so driven, organized, basically a basketball genius who changed the women's game... It will be a struggle for her but she's pretty brave to continue coaching and go through this type of illness so publicly. Any missteps are sure to be second guessed. Always liked and respected her, now I pretty much love her. Very courageous.

Line-up for this  year's Maggie Dixon Classic at Madison Square Garden has been leaked but not yet publicly announced.

NEW YORK — Pat Summitt and the Tennessee Lady Vols will return to Madison Square Garden to play DePaul in the sixth annual Maggie Dixon Classic on Dec. 11.
Summitt surprised the sports world with her announcement last Tuesday that she had been diagnosed with early onset dementia — the Alzheimer's type.
Brittney Griner and the Baylor Lady Bears will play St. John's in the opener of the Classic. The 6-foot-8 junior phenom had a great Garden debut as a freshman, scoring 25 points and blocking three shots in the Lady Bears' win over Boston College in 2009.
Both Tennessee and DePaul will stay in the area after their games as the Lady Vols will visit Rutgers on Tuesday night and the Blue Demons will face Princeton the same evening.

Looking forward to it! Be really nice to see Brittney Griner at the Garden again too, maybe I'll get a chance to get a pic of her with GraceAnne? Really I just hope we can get good seats again this year as it seems like it's becoming more popular.
