It All Started Around 5:45am

So yeah, we're crazy. Last Wednesday at practice we started talking about taking a trip down to Princeton for another workout with the Director of Basketball Operations for Princeton, Megan Griffith.

The girls had a great time last time they went down, learned a lot and they always get so much out of the experience. Megan was fun to work with and got the girls thinking about the game. Working, training, intellectualizing, having fun all at the same time. Seems like a rational plan of action on the face of it.

Kim & Allen Hudson wanted Tristyn to join Stone and Woody so we had to find a time that worked for everyone.... annnnd we had a game, training, practice, various sibling games and practices, etc., etc.. The only thing that ended up working for everyone was an 8:00 am workout at Jadwin Gym on Saturday morning, that way we could still head back and make our 12:30 Super League game at Island Garden in West Hempstead. What does this all mean? Well, if we reverse engineer the whole thing it means you gotta get the kiddies up around 5-5:30 am to be packed in the car by 5:45, drive the two hours down to Princeton for the 8 am two hour workout, get right back in the car just after 10:00 and drive the two hours to West Hempstead to be right on time for your 12:30 game. And so, this is exactly what we did! It was somewhat miraculous that the timing all worked out, the kids were all in a good humor and that the traffic gods smiled upon us.

It was actually a LOT of fun and although we worried about the girls being tired, cranky or overworked they had a great time together! They talked and laughed the whole way down and back in the car, had a fantastic workout where they all gave 100% and learned a TREMENDOUS amount about halfcourt offense, downscreens, flares, curls and various ways to get open and what's more, they ended up winning their game in what turned out to be one of the best overall team efforts of the season.

If you want to succeed you have to be willing to work hard and make some sacrifices. Getting up at 5:30 on a Saturday so you can work on your game is not something every 11 year old is willing to do. Very proud that these three made their own decision to show this kind of commitment.

After a good night's sleep Woody and Stone headed to Game7 on Sunday afternoon for some training. It was great to see Coach George Moore there! Coach Moore has been at previous bootcamps as well as this past summer's RVC Game7 camp. He's a great guy, great motivator and a trainer who has been very good at getting the most out of GraceAnne. Jason Fraser was also there with some wonderful advice on being a winner and Coach Von Essen was there as always pushing all the girls to their limits and demanding excellence.

From Game7 straight to Sunday evening Hudson Storm practice at Glen Cove High School with Coach Allen Hudson. Made quick work of the weekend but a lot was accomplished and the girls had a great time.

This week Woody will have tryouts for her Game7 AAU 6th grade team on Tuesday night and a couple Storm practices later in the week. CYO Playoffs are this coming Sunday 1/30 2pm at St Hyacinth gym. Maybe we can sneak back down to Princeton and squeeeze in another workout?
