Birthday and Basketball

Thursday Grace's CYO team lost to St Agnes for only their second defeat of the season. Tough game with the opposing coach screaming his head off every time Grace touched the ball and some adults in attendance yelling at her from the stands. Pleasant folks. Anyway, she played well scoring 6, grabbing rebounds and blocking shots in spite of early foul trouble. She and Stone were the only two that scored and that's never good.

Things got better from there because we traveled down to Princeton for Grace Stone's Birthday on Saturday. Watched the Tigers beat Penn Quakers for their first league win of the season. They should win the Ivy League again in spite of Niveen Rashid's ACL injury. Devona Allgood played really well which I especially enjoyed. She's great in the post, works very hard, and I always make sure GraceAnne is watching her and paying attention to what she's trying to do. It was also fun seeing Alyssa Baron the phenomenal Penn Quakers freshman.

The girls got to see the players after the game and they were all super nice! Coach Banghart was happy to see them as well and is always very encouraging. Iano's for pizza before the game, Twist for frozen yogurt afterward, hard to beat that for a GREAT birthday!

GraceAnne "slept" over at Ms Stone's and I collected her for a 4:15 workout at Game7. I was glad they had an earlier session because we had to get back to Glen Head for a CYO game at 6:30. Grace slept in the car the whole way to St Mark's in Rockville Centre. Woke up real well when she got there though. I was kinda surprised at how well she could handle and execute the drills having not had any time in the gym the last two weeks. She did extremely well and worked very hard. Very cool to see Jason Fraser defend her, I can't believe a guy that long can get that low on defense! Great for Woody to see. Marc was happy to see her and made sure she worked hard. Anna McClean, Freeport/Iona/Utex Row Rybnik (POL), who worked the Game7 summer camp Woody attended was also there coaching.

When training was done we hustled back to Glen Head and beat a feisty St Elizabeth team in the final game of the CYO regular season. 10-2 record isn't what we are accustomed to ;o) but is very nice indeed! Coach Hudson didn't press or let them run the break so that they were forced to play the entire game in the half court. They had to run the plays and make decisions... lots of turnovers and a bit of an ugly game but hopefully progress was made. Couple super league games and then the CYO playoffs. Hopefully the Storm will awaken from the snooze they've been taking recently and do a nice job in the playoffs.
