Transition Basketball
Lots of changes for GraceAnne in the last couple weeks.
We've been going through the process of finding a new team for Gracey and it's been a very interesting and productive experience. Grace was given several opportunities to work out with teams, get to know the coaches and girls and even guest play in a couple tournaments. All the coaches and the kids have been fantastic! I've been amazed at how welcoming the girls have been but also their families. Grace seems to get along easily with everyone and a lot of the kids know her from camps and playing against her in the past. Got a chance to meet some really good coaches who turned out to be very fine people as well. Everybody seems to be looking out for Grace, want her on their team and have her best interest in mind. Makes me very optimistic.
Two weeks ago Grace guest played in the NJ Shore Shot Tournament with Long Island Lightning Lepore. Very nice group of girls, wonderful families. It was great to see Grace having fun out there! She didn't look completely comfortable but that's to be expected, she's played with the same girls for so long I'm sure it's strange for her to be in an entirely new situation.
Worked out with the 7th grade Baldwin team and Coach Tom Catapano. Great experience! LOVE the offensive sets they run. Coach Catapano got them through so many options so quickly I was amazed! Grace is very comfortable running sets, maybe a little too comfortable but she hasn't really been in a "system" so it was nice to see her "get it" so quickly. Lots of ball screens, down screens, ball movement and motion off the ball. Excellent coach and I was excited to have Grace work with him.
Kevin McComb's Game7 team was probably the biggest surprise. Really didn't know what to expect as it is a new team and I'd only met Kevin once before. FUN STUFF! Kevin has had a lot of trouble forming this team but he has really done an excellent job getting things together in short order. They've only had a chance to practice together once which Grace was able to attend. Then..... they swept the Riverside Hawks Tip-Off last weekend with Grace guest playing... this is going to be a very fun team with a LOT of upside. Also really like Kevin's coaching style, very good with the girls.
Grace has chosen to play this AAU season with the LI Lightning Lepore team. It seems like a very good choice for her but definitely want to stay in touch with all of these coaches and their teams. GraceAnne and the whole WoodsFam is very grateful for the opportunities, all of the support from friends old and new, and all of the nice compliments and encouragement Grace has received. She's feeling good about herself which is what it's all about.
