Hofstra Plays On!

Hofstra Pride to the NIT
Congratulations! Nicole Capurso and the Hofstra Pride have made the postseason for just the fourth time in program history. Nicole, Candace Bellocchio, Marie Malone, Shante Evans and the rest of the Pride will face the Harvard Crimson in the first round this Thursday night at The Mack Center in Hempstead. Grace and I should go to that one.

Hofstra and Harvard have both played St. John's, Hartford and Princeton this season. Hofstra went 1-2 against those teams, while Harvard compiled a 1-3 record against the same teams. Both the Pride and the Crimson beat St. John's this season.

Fans hounding CAA SuperStar Nicole Capurso!
Hofstra enters the WNIT with a 19-11 overall record. The Pride will be seeking its fourth-ever 20-win season at the NCAA Division I level with a victory in the WNIT. Led by junior forward Shante Evans, Hofstra notched wins over three teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament (St. John’s, Kansas State and Marist). Evans led Hofstra in scoring and rebounding this season with 19 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per outing. Senior guard Candice Bellocchio quarterbacked the Pride offense to the tune of 6.1 assists per game.

Hofstra previously earned trips to the WNIT in 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2009-10. Hofstra has won at least one game in each of its three previous trips, including advancing to the quarterfinals during the 2009-10 campaign.

It was exciting watching the team play this year. They definitely had their ups and downs but played tough, smart ball. Congratulations on making the post season and good luck in the NIT! GraceAnne and I will be cheering you on!
