Brrrackets
No way! St John's the #3 seed and ranked 14th in the country meets Creighton the #14 seed in Norman Oklahoma sub-regional in the first round. What are the chances? St John's was on a tear at the end of the regular Big East season beating UConn, WVa, Villanova and Georgetown, beat Louisville in OT in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals eventually losing to UConn in the semis. Creighton will have their hands full but they had their own improbable run beating the MVC #1 seeded Missouri State to advance to the finals where they beat Drake for the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. Creighton is a pressing/trapping team that likes to slow down their opponents with end to end defense. When we saw Nadirah face the Rutger's trap earlier this year she shredded it with her ball handling ability. Creighton's RPI and strength of schedule don't compare to St John's. Should be interesting.
Princeton got a #9 seed which I think is kinda crazy considering they just got ranked #24 in the country by the associated press. The first top 25 ranking in Ivy history. They put together a really tough non-league schedule this year too... What a season the Tigers are having! They are in the Bridgeport CT sub-regional and will face #8 seed Kansas State. If they win their first NCAA Tournament game ever, which I suspect they will, they get the pleasure of facing our friends the #1 seeded UConn Huskies in the second round. I think Princeton deserved the #7 seed ahead of UW Green Bay and K State. That would have put them with #2 seeded Kentucky and out of UConn's bracket. After knocking off St John's the Huskies defeated Notre Dame to win the Big East Tournament. If Dolson does what she's capable of I think they'll win their regional and advance to the final 4 this year.
GraceAnne has an award ceremony tonight at Glen Cove High School and will receive her JV letter. She should be proud, she worked very hard. We will be leaving early so that she can then play in her final regular season Island Garden Super League game. The team has and 8-1 record and got the #1 seed in the 8th-9th grade playoffs. Knew they were good, didn't know they were this good. We'll definitely know more after the playoffs... hopefully they are finishers.
Coaching situation for JV next year sounds pretty up in the air. Coach is not too enthusiastic about returning. Can't blame her, she got a lot of support from the parents but I think there was some friction/resistance/fear on the part of others that really should have supported her. Some girls don't want to move up and play varsity yet, hard to blame them after they witnessed an 0-17 record. Hopefully it will all get settled very soon.
