Princeton Trip

It was definitely time, probably long overdue.

We finally got back down to Princeton to have the girls work out with Megan Griffith. Missed her! I hadn't realized that the last time we were able to do it was the day of The Storm CYO team's defeat to the Renegades in the CYO playoffs. That was kind of an ugly loss on what was an otherwise wonderful, albeit very long, day of basketball.

This time Jordin Thomas, a new Game7 AAU teammate, was able to come along which was very cool! Jordin is a really nice addition to the team, hard worker, skilled player a solid contributor and very nice kid. Good opportunity for team bonding both on and off the floor. These three girls are a really good fit, push and encourage one another and work very well off of and with each other.

All three girls worked very hard as Megan put them through their paces. Stone and Woody have not had a whole lot of floor time lately so they really needed this and you could see them start a bit slowly and then really step it up as Megan demanded more from them.

As the intensity of the workout increased you could really sense the girls getting back into the groove. They always seem to really bring it when we go down to Jadwin gym, it's become a special place for them.

Megan has a no nonsense way of getting a lot out of them, with a big smile on her face, while still letting them have fun. She's just the right combination of demanding and fun with an easy going yet firm manner. She's gotten to know the Graces, knows what they're capable of and raises the expectations to exactly where they should be.

Lots of ball handling drills, passing drills and a nice progression of moves to the hoop with reverse layups and ball fake to step through moves. She then put the "lesson" part into practice by having them go through a bunch of one on one's against one another using some of the moves she had just showed them.

We were able to get the girls into town for pizza at Iano's and frozen yogurt at Twist. They seemed to really enjoy one another's company, the workout and the time spent just being around Megan, she is a very special and very accomplished  person not so far removed from where the girls are at right now. Very cool to be able to do these things for the kids.

A very nice, very productive morning workout with Megan Griffith at Jadwin Gym in Princeton. Can't wait for Princeton Skills Camp for Woody in mid-June and then Graces, Amara and who knows who else at the Overnight Camp later in the month!
