Congratulations Coach Arico, Coach Duffy and the St John's Red Storm!
Congratulations Coach Arico and Coach Megan Duffy! GraceAnne saw a bunch of games at Carnesecca Arena this year and is looking forward to the Red Storm making a run in the tournament! See you at camp again this August!
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's community celebrated the Red Storm women's basketball team's second-straight NCAA Tournament berth and third under head coach Kim Barnes Arico with a pep rally and festivities in front of Carnesecca Arena on Tuesday.
"We appreciate you all being out here to day. I know it's cold and you're out here to support us. This is the first time in a long time, since probably before all of you were born, that the men's basketball team and the women's basketball team are going to the `Big Dance,'" Barnes Arico said to the crowd of Red Storm fans. "The women are going back-to-back years, so we're showing some consistency in the program. We really appreciate having the students on board and it makes a big difference to the program. We enjoy having your support throughout the season and we really have enjoyed seeing you at the games. We hope to make you proud when we head on out to California."
On Monday, St. John's (21-10) earned an At-Large bid in the NCAA Tournament as the No. 9 seed in the Spokane Region, as announced by the NCAA Selection Committee on ESPN on Monday. The Red Storm will face No. 8 seed Texas Tech (22-10) in the First Round at 4:20 p.m. (ET) at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif.
The game will be televised live on ESPN2 with Dave Pasch and Mary Murphy on the call. The winner of that game will play the winner of game between No. 1-seed Stanford and No. 16-seed UC-Davis on March 21.
