Maggie Dixon Classic 2010
Great Day! GraceAnne, Remi, Blake and I went to the Maggie Dixon Classic yesterday afternoon at Madison Square Garden. It is the second year we've gone. Last year we Saw Brittany Griner, Kim Mulkey and the Baylor Bears beat Boston College in the first game and Pat Summit, Kelly Caine and the The Tennessee Lady Vols beat Rutgers in the second. This year was even better than last! The #1 ranked UConn Huskies played the #11 Ohio State Buckeyes in the second game for their 88th consecutive win, a collegiate record. In the first game the #8 ranked Texas A&M Aggies blew out the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
It was VERY cool for us to be there to witness history and for GraceAnne to see some of the girls that she has worked with play in such an important game. Tiffany Hayes was just amazing scoring 26 points on some absolutely spectacular driving layups. I never thought about it before but Tiffany, a junior, has NEVER lost as a Husky. Lorin Dixon got big minutes subbing out Bria Hartley, Heather Buck got minutes late in the game and Kelly Faris also played for most of the game. It was also interesting to see Samantha Prahalis from Commack go up against Bria Hartley from North Babylon. There were tons of fans in attendance for both players. Bria definitely got the better of that matchup scoring 13 with 5 assists to Sammy's 2 for 17 and 4 assists. We also got to see Jantel Lavender, the All American forward for the Buckeyes. She was held to 14 points by the Huskies, mostly Stephanie Dolson who had 15 rebounds, but you could really appreciate what an amazing player she is, very skilled and battling throughout the entire game.
In the first game GraceAnne immediately noticed, commented on and watched intently the play of Danielle Adams, 24 points 12 rebounds, for Texas A&M. During the Uconn game she walked by our seats with the rest of her Aggie teammates and we got to say hello which was also very cool. You can see from the video we had really good seats and for only $15.00 bucks! Nice, nice day! Definitely going to try to go again next year!
After we got home we got to watch #6 Tennessee beat #2 Stanford which was pretty cool. Tomorrow night the UConn Huskies play #17 Florida State for their 89th consecutive win and the outright record surpassing John Wooden's UCLA Bruins. We'll be watching!
