Looking up...

Great weekend! Grace played with Game7 McCombs and had a very productive tournament. Enjoyed going out to St Joseph's College in Patchogue, short ride, nice campus, nice gym, lots of stuff to do nearby between games. This is the second Riverside Hawks tournament Grace has done this month and Kenny Parham, St Anthony's coach, does a really good job of organizing and running them.

Had two close games against decent competition, one blowout and then an improbable upset against the Riverside Hawks 9th grade team in the 4th and final game. I won't pretend the Hawks weren't tired, they played back to back to back, but, we'll take the win against that level of competition any day! Allie Murphy is a tough cover and I don't think that kid gets tired ever! Grace knows Allie from working out at Jay's and when she saw she would face her said "Dad, I seriously don't want to have to defend Allie...". She did and she kept her in front of her while she was on the floor, did a great job! This tournament made every girl on Kevin's team better. Woody put up points, blocked a bunch of shots, had lots of assists and rebounds, even got to play the point for a while in the blowout game. Good weekend!

Got to watch lots of talent in some of the other games. NYC Heat was there with Jordan Augustus, Mei Lyn Batista, McKayla Hernandez, Nani Redford. They played Riverside with Chastity Taylor, Charise Wilson, Makeda Nicholas, Candace Belvedere, Kiersten West. All very nice players and a fun game to watch.

Last week was the final week of Pro-Hoops Academy. Jay couldn't make it to the last day because he had 4 players he was working with taken in the NBA draft that evening! Exciting stuff! Jay Hernandez has been doing pre-draft training with the #1 pick Anthony Bennett, CJ McCollum from Lehigh who went 10th, Michael Carter Williams 11th, Reggie Bullock 25th and, in the second round Mike Muscala at 44th. Very cool that Grace has had the opportunity to work with Jay. Great trainer, great guy. The "lost" Pro-Hoops session will be made up this Sunday the 7th.

Summer league Grace is signed up to run with Coach "Mayo", Greg Mayerhofer and the Glen Cove crew in Freeport, first game tonight. Woody tweaked the same foot yesterday that she hurt a few months back in super league, have to keep a close eye on her. She's also playing up in Nike Swoosh at Bunky Reid Park with her Rising Stars teammates. Kevin McCombs is putting something together as well but not quite sure what.
