All Conference Honors for GraceAnne

GraceAnne Woods received Nassau County A2 All Conference honors last night at the Nassau County Girl's Basketball Coaches Association's All Star Dinner 2013. That's a mouthful. What it means; She played well this season, her coach Corinne Turner nominated her for the award, the other coaches in the conference agreed she should get it. Pretty cool for an eighth grader to get an All Conference award!

It was a very nice night at the Crest Hollow Country Club. Several of Grace's Glen Cove teammates were also honored and we ran into a bunch of coaches, parents and players we knew from other school districts. The Mepham girls Grace trains with at Pro-Hoops cleaned up with a bunch of awards!

3-2 Zone Principles and Rotations

In a 3-2 zone you must pressure the ball with on-ball perimeter defense. This means closing out on the pass, going over screens, trapping the corners and ball denial, post players should be denying the post entry pass (fronting or 3/4 in the post). Defensive rotation is critical as it is in all zone defenses. This can be a fun defense to play that confuses offenses and leads to steals and breaks. It does put pressure on your post players and can expose the corners. Basic Rotations and Positions of the 3-2 (1-2-2) zone Starting Positions    Ball on wing: Defender 3 comes out to guard the ball. A Gathering Storm!

GraceAnne's CYO team the St Hyacinth Storm is certainly shaping up, things are quickly coming together in practice. Just got the season schedule and the girl's are ready to go. First game the weekend of Oct. 23rd, can't wait! Another great practice!
