Moving along...
Fantastic weekend!
Grace had a really good week last week and it all culminated with a wonderful last weekend before her first varsity game. In three scrimmages Grace averaged close to a double/double. More importantly she played hard and smart on both ends of the floor.
On Saturday after her 8am practice Woody accompanied her buddy Grace Stone to her very first varsity game for Long Island Lutheran. Stone is a 7th grader playing varsity for what is an extremely competitive team with a very challenging schedule. Not only did Stone get in the game, she played decent minutes and ended up scoring seven with a number of assists! Congratulations to a wonderful kid who has worked extremely hard for this moment! More great things to come for Grace Stone.
From St John the Baptist in W Islip the girls went to St Dom's in Oyster Bay to catch another couple games. First we watched Kellenberg beat Smithtown West handily then on to the main event. We were really in the building to see the newly minted St Mary's team. Three sophomore transfers are what makes St Mary's interesting, Mei Lyn Bautista, Jordan Augustus and McKayla Hernandez. These three played in the Brooklyn Queens section of the Catholic High School Athletic League last season for the Mary Louis Academy. They are all good players, fun to watch and Grace knows each a little bit from working out with them at Pro-Hoops. She also works out with a girl named Taylor who is a Jr. on St Mary's... she killed it all game with jumpshots from the short corner and tough defense. The game was a blow-out in favor of St Mary's and the girls we came to see did not disappoint.
Saturday night the two Grace's went up to the local YMCA after a long day and got schooled by a group of local high school boys. Woody now wants a Y membership, not only so she can get revenge but she also has a friend who is going to help her learn how to work out and lift weights.... this could be dangerous. Sunday we went to Buckley Country Day for a workout with Jay Hernandez and Pro Hoops.
Today is the day! First varsity action for GraceAnne....
