Was just checking out Hofstra's really impressive non-league schedule for this season and stumbled upon this picture of Nicole giving an interview on the Hofstra site. Looks like she should be doing play by play!
Both Hofstra and St John's are kicking off their season tonight with a pep-rally. Yep, it's time for midnight madness and the beginning of the college basketball season with official practices starting tonight at 5:00. Games begin Nov. 7th.
Hofstra should have a good team this year and it's definitely reflected in their non-league schedule. They will start away against Gonzaga and then play Hartford, Kansas State and two of our favorites St John's and Princeton. They may also play Emma O'Conner and the Marist Red Foxes in the Holiday Invitational which Hofstra hosts in December. All these teams danced last season. GraceAnne knows lots of players on St John's, Princeton and now Hofstra too... her allegiances will be tested!
Hofstra returns Candice Bellocchio, Nicole Capurso and Kate Loper in the backcourt as well as Marie Malone, Anma Onyeuku, Candace Bond and Shante Evans who is currently playing for team USA in the Pan American Games. This should be an interesting season for Hofstra and a fun year to watch. Their home opener is against Grace's buddies St John's.
St John's plays Hartford, Texas A&M and Baylor in the Maggie Dixon Classic in their non-league schedule. They are returning everyone but Sky Lindsay and Coco Hart. Plus, they add Tesia Harris who sat out last year as a transfer. They are going to be good once again in 2011-12. I have a feeling Da'Shena Stevens is going to absolutely kill it this year.
Princeton plays Marist, Stanford, DePaul, Villanova and the spectacular Elena Delle Donne and the Deleware Blue Hens for non league in addition to Hofstra. Nothing to sneeze at! Last year's Ivy League Champions lose their top scorer Addie Micir as well as K-Hill but... Niveen, best player in the Ivy League, will be coming back from her ACL tear, Devona looks like she's ready to break out, they have some very interesting incoming freshmen and a brilliant coaching staff.
On another note, GraceAnne supposedly took the Selective Classification test third period today and I will find out if she passed when I get home later today. Pins and needles all day... she really wanted this and worked very hard towards it so I hope she gets it. Storm practice tonight and then G7 workout with Nicole Capurso, Candice Bellocchio and Marie Malone at St Mark's. Sunday the CYO season opens in Massapequa against St Rose, should be fun!
