St John's Camp
GraceAnne is having a great time this week at St John's Camp!
She likes her teammates and seems to be making lots of new friends. She also says that she has been playing extremely well in the games "I... am... AWESOME... ", and has been getting good instruction. She's talking a lot more about her experience and what happens during the day than she usually does so that's always good.
Some of the St John's players and alumni are helping out and Grace has really been enjoying working with them. She is getting to know a few of the girls that we watched play throughout last season.
Da'Shena Stevens, 2009 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, 2010 Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American, Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Region I All-American, Met Basketball Writers' Player of the Year, 3.46 GPA majoring in accounting and finance and also led St. John's in rebounding while scoring 12 points a game. Team-high 19 points to go with six boards against Princeton in the first round of NCAA Tournament ... totaled 14 points and a team-leading nine rebounds against No. 11 Florida State in second round of NCAA Tournament.
Coach Barnes Arico on Da'Shena Stevens: "Da'Shena is obviously a First Team All-BIG EAST player. She has been one of the elite players to come through our program. Da'Shena is established now, and going into her senior year she has the potential to be an All-American candidate. She's our go-to player. She rebounds. She scores. She does everything that we need her to do."
Coach Barnes Arico on Centhya "Coco" Hart: "It's been a great run with Coco. I want her to finish off her career on an outstanding note. She's probably our smartest player, and does all the intangible things. She has mastered the science of taking a charge, and she puts her body on the line for her teammates. She knows how to go hard in games and every day in practice. We expect her to show more consistency on the offensive end, as she has really worked on that part of her game."
Sounds like a really fun camp and another great experience for GraceAnne! Love it when things just seem to come together perfectly! Doesn't always happen, when it does it makes you feel like you're doing something right.
It's wonderful to be able to have the opportunity to learn from coaches as accomplished as Kim Barnes Arico and Megan Duffy in addition to working with scholar athletes that know what it takes to be successful at the highest level.
This is why we do it, great examples of how to work hard, set goals and succeed at whatever it is you choose to do in life.
