Hoop Group Spring Jam Fest

GraceAnne's AAU team played a tournament at Seton Hall University this past weekend. It was the Hoop Group Spring Jam Fest and in spite of taking our lumps we had a great time, played some of the best competition we've seen and the team definitely got better through their efforts.

It also seems like Grace is getting back to her normal self. She played well in all four games but didn't score much in the first three. She did make aggressive moves to the hoop, drew fouls and converted her free-throws. She also played fantastic defense and got back into her rebounding and shot-blocking groove.

In the third game, the first three were on what was a lo-ong Saturday, she started to put the ball on the floor and caused a lot of problems by doing so. Most teams don't expect a big to be able to handle, bring the ball to the front court, draw defense and dish. It wasn't until the fourth game that she started to score as well, she dropped eight which is a nice start to getting where she should be. If she can get to consistently getting 10 points along with her 10 rebounds, 5 or 6 blocks... that in addition to all the other intangibles she does so well? I think she will be very happy.

In a 3-2 zone you must pressure the ball with on-ball perimeter defense. This means closing out on the pass, going over screens, trapping the corners and ball denial, post players should be denying the post entry pass (fronting or 3/4 in the post). A Gathering Storm!

GraceAnne's CYO team the St Hyacinth Storm is certainly shaping up, things are quickly coming together in practice. Just got the season schedule and the girl's are ready to go. First game the weekend of Oct. 23rd, can't wait! Another great practice!
