Lots of Minutes

GraceAnne sleeping in the car after playing a lot of minutes in a tournament at Pace University in Westchester. Only six of our girls showed up.



This was the third tournament we did in her first year in AAU basketball.

Grace is 10 yrs old and will be going into the 5th grade this September. She is already 5'5" and has been playing basketball since the first grade. St Rocco's in Glen Cove was her first experience in an organized league, I guess she was 6 yrs old? She loves basketball and we are having a lot of fun watching her pursue it. If she keeps enjoying it and continues to work as hard as she does now I wonder where it might take her?

3-2 Zone Principles and Rotations

In a 3-2 zone you must pressure the ball with on-ball perimeter defense. This means closing out on the pass, going over screens, trapping the corners and ball denial, post players should be denying the post entry pass (fronting or 3/4 in the post). Defensive rotation is critical as it is in all zone defenses. This can be a fun defense to play that confuses offenses and leads to steals and breaks. It does put pressure on your post players and can expose the corners. Basic Rotations and Positions of the 3-2 (1-2-2) zone Starting Positions    Ball on wing: Defender 3 comes out to guard the ball. A Gathering Storm!

GraceAnne's CYO team the St Hyacinth Storm is certainly shaping up, things are quickly coming together in practice. Just got the season schedule and the girl's are ready to go. First game the weekend of Oct. 23rd, can't wait! Another great practice!
